Review Pineapple Upside Down Sour

When this beer came available Mike and I thought it was too unique to pass up.  So why not open one up and do a nice quick proper review. Work is hard after all

Paradox Beer Company (Divide, CO)

Pineapple Upside-Down Sour a.k.a Skully No. 40 89pts

Sour Golden Ale Brewed with Pineapple Aged in Rum Barrels

Paradox Pineapple Sour pours an extremely hazy yellow orange. The appearance of this beer looks exactly like an IPA you would get from Trillium unfiltered juice.  There is not a ton going on in the nose slight acid with very faint hints of Pineapple on the end.  First sip sour right off the top reminds you of sucking on a warhead candy as a kid.  This beer is very effervescent as bubbles dance across your tongue and percolate in the glass.  Initially, there doesn’t seem to be a ton going on here, just a hint of pineapple on the finish. As the beer warms, some fruit finally starts to come out both in the nose and flavor. Definitely, let this beer warm a bit from the fridge because it completely changes. Drinking Skully No. 40 at cellar Temp (45ish degrees) is the way to go. The beer finishes with a nice lingering dryness. I would say this is a perfect warm weather sipper or palate cleanser.

The biggest complaint is that there was no barrel character to be found at all.  Our final impression of Pineapple Upside-Down Sour . This beer is definitely worth trying. It’s a very good golden sour with a nice kiss of ripe pineapple.
